Palana Beach House
Why stay at Palana Beach House? > It’s right on the beach (You can see it on a www.googleearth.com Type in Palana TAS, Australia search - house closest to the beach!) > Superb location with spectacular views > Looks out onto beautiful unspoilt coast and two islands > Private, peaceful, tranquil, a special beach house holiday feel that can only be described by those who have stayed there > North facing house with all modern conveniences > Beautiful timber floors, walls and ceilings > Under cover balcony for outdoor relaxation in comfy padded deck chairs whilst admiring the superb views... > Great fishing, terrific walking tracks & drives > Easy to get to with no security hassles... > It has a very special Island feel...try it...
Anything else? Palana Beach House faces north, and subsequently gets the sun as well as light, making it thermally efficient. There is an open fire for those inclined to watch the flames licking away on dusk whilst also admiring the sea. From inside the house you can also see the sea. Palana Beach House is protected from the prevailing weather, which is a big plus.
Tony & Linda
have furnished the house to ensure all modern comforts are on hand. A
BBQ outside is there for your snags and chops. Modern conveniences allow
cooking with ease as well as the domestics catered for (Washing machine,
fridge, bread making machine, all cooking utensils to make those special
meals if you want to etc, etc.).
Out the front
is an undercover balcony where you can relax and read a book or sip a
red wine (As we do!!) whilst marvelling at the ocean and the inner and
outer sisters (Islands). Time and the rest of the world seem to melt
away when you are captured by the serenity of this lovely location.
At night the
wallabies come around to quietly do the lawn mowing, whilst during the
day you often see echidnas and frequently sea eagles flying low over the
front deck looking for their meal!!!
To get to the
beach you simply take about 65 steps from the gate and you are likely to
find that most times, it's all yours… Several kilometres of near private
beach, even during the “busy” times. Hard to imagine isn’t it?
The north end
of Flinders Island is renowned for fishing. Or if you like, you can
simply buy a cray from the locals. Out the front is where the crays
are!!!
There are
numerous walking tracks around Flinders, all featured in a book at
Palana Beach House. One starts right at the gate.
Flinders
Island is about 70 x 30 kilometres, is surrounded by 52 other islands
(Some big) and has some spectacular scenery with Strezlecki Mountain to
climb over 2,500 feet high near the southern end. As one of the first
areas settled in Australia, there is quite a bit of history around, with
a new museum not far away as well as old cemeteries and landmarks.
You can even
e-mail your shopping list to
walkers@vision.net.au
at Flinders IGA and pick up your food on
arrival! All with a friendly smile. The pub opposite the supermarket has
delicious meals if you are in town. Fresh seafood is usually the order
of the day!!!
One thing is
for certain, the feel of peace and tranquillity on Flinders Island is
difficult to describe. It can only truly be appreciated by experiencing
the beauty of nature and the rugged outcrops of headlands as you drive
or walk round.
You will go
away feeling like you have come to somewhere special in the world, as
international tourists who have come to visit and stayed to live can
attest to!!! Nearby us there are Austrian, French and Italian
neighbours!!!
Come on, try
something different, and somewhere where you don’t have to join queues,
no security issues here (Compulsory to wave to the locals as you drive
around), nor any stresses of modern travel to holiday destinations. You
often get to see spectacular scenery as you fly into Flinders.
There are
several ways to get to Flinders from either Launceston (Tasmania) or
Essendon airports. Airlines of Tasmania fly
from both destinations and can be contacted on 1800 144 460.
Southern
Shipping operates some “basic” ferries from Bridport in northeast
Tasmania or Port Welshpool in southern Victoria. They can be contacted
on (03) 6356 1753.
TGS Air
Charter at Tooradin aerodrome operate charter flights to Flinders Island
and can be contacted on (03) 5998 3733.

Dear Tony & Linda,
Thank you for you interest in our stay, in a one word answer it was supercalafragalisticxpealadosus (don’t think I spelt it correctly but you get the idea). It was very kind of you Tony to phone on Sunday night to see if we were OK. The house is very well appointed as you said and Jenny was very kind to get the groceries for us.
Thanks once again for all yours and Jenny’s
kindness in helping make our holiday such a happy
and relaxed time.
You really do have a beautiful beach house in an idyllic location. There was one other problem with our stay, it wasn’t long enough….. so here’s hoping to return after Easter next year. Cheers for now, Kris & Col.
Found the beach house first class and no negatives to report.
We ran most mornings along to the boat ramp and then to the end
of Palana beach and then had breakfast on the balcony,
brilliant.
Overall, a top experience and will come back again. The waves crashing on the beach at night and the sheer isolation is hard to beat. Am getting out of the habit of waving to oncoming motorists but it's taken a while!
Barry & Stephanie.
